“Your attitude defines your altitude”- These are not just adages to learn in moral teaching lessons at school, they were taught to us so that we could imbibe them in our life. And in fact they are not just sayings being passed on from generation to generation. It’s the truth, what does Monday eve feel like? The realization has synced in that you have to go back to the shitty job again (if it is that bad) and unless there is some apocalypse, you are going to see your boss the next day. So what kind of attitude do you subconsciously build up? Are you excited to go to work? Looking forward to the Monday? Unless you are doing something where your passion lies, that is never going to be the case. You know you are not going to be chirpy on a Monday morning because that was your attitude about it since last night.
What you feel for your job defines how you good or bad you will perform. Modelling is a tough job, what people see is you wearing expensive designer clothing and trendy jewelry, posing for photographs. So what? You are making money for every step you take on the ramp. But the truth and the struggle that goes to get to the ramp is what they always forget to consider. And all the aspiring models make it to the runways, not just by their looks but because they had their minds set on the one goal. They knew that things won’t come easy and they will have to work for it so they did. If you have the idea that what others are saying is probably right and you have a negligent or rather chill attitude towards modelling, don’t consider it to be a real profession and it is more like a hobby to you. Or you are just there to try out new things, then either you are in the wrong place or you are in for a shock. The reality is that with the advent of social media everyone has the opportunity to stand out and there are thousands with the same dream of becoming a model, if you don’t have the right attitude towards your work, things might not turn out as you expect.
The world is a nasty place, and in the industry where things will not be served in a silver platter where you need to face rejections maybe everyday how do you expect to survive. And if you cannot go through it how you do think you will keep your dream of becoming a model alive? The right attitude in every situation is necessary not just for the job but also for your mental wellbeing. Persistence is key, keep at it no matter what bull shit people throw at you, you have to be resilient. This is not just a moral teaching lesson and definitely not a tirade on what you should and shouldn’t do. It is true you need to figure out your own path and your own way of dealing with obstacles that are thrown your way. The fashion industry where negative publicity is not considered a setback rather a publicity stunt to get more audience interested in you, you need to figure out for yourself whether you are willing to go down that line. Get to know the tricks of the trade and use it to your benefit. All of this can only be done with the right attitude towards your career and your life as well.
It cannot be stressed enough what you can accomplish if you have the right mind for it. It is necessary to prioritize what you want and find the way to get it. You cannot let go of your ethics but you cannot shy away if you have to bend the rules once in a while. If your dream is to walk the runway for the fashion weeks at all four fashion capitals of the world, there is no one stopping you but yourself. You want those Iconic Angel Wings, you got the attitude for it, and you will soon have the wings to fly. Keep your head held high and keep hustling!
