The fashion world can be a little complicated to navigate for those who don’t know much about the brands and their histories. Today we are here to solve that problem. The fact that the brand is considered luxury does not mean it stands in the same tier as other luxury brands.
In fact, in the world of luxury, many brands stand out due to their exclusivity and others do not, due to their mass market appeal. Keep reading to find out which luxury brand is considered the winner in the luxury world.
Ultra-expensive (exclusive and prestigious)
We will divide this category into two sections A&B. Tier 1B has extreme items but has been getting mainstreamed and thus less prestigious. Due to marketing working against them, even someone who just got rich and doesn’t know anything about fashion can afford some of their items.
At this level, we have Chanel, the second most valuable fashion house in the world, Bottega Veneta, Tom Ford, and Dior. The difference between these items is that they are usually less trashy and cater to a different target than the upcoming tiers. Even their entry-level items are extremely expensive.
Tier 1A is composed of only the most prestigious of all brands. These are Kiton, Loro Piana, Delvaux, Moynat, Brioni, Goyard, Berluti and Armani Prive. Goyard is solely focused on artisanal craftsmanship in one product category while competing brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton focused on opening dozens of impressive flagship stores around the world and expanding their footprint via collaboration, celebrity endorsements, and blockbuster fashion shows. They don’t want to make extreme sales; they want to remain exclusive. You need to consult with them yourselves if you wish to one of their luxury goods.
Finally, the most exclusive and expensive luxury brand in the world is Hermes, on top of being one of the oldest ones in existence. Their broken bags are commonly seen only in the arms of high-profile celebrities, mega Divas, and even princesses. Hermes bags are handmade, which is also the reason for them costing so much. It takes highbrow craftsmanship and attention to detail to make them.
Ultra-expensive
These have a few entry-level goods that some people can afford with a particular effort. Up here we have Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Louboutin. On top of that, Tier 2 prices have no relation to production costs. The prices are based on how much consumers pay to be seen with what they perceived as a high-value prestigious item. Nobody buys Fendi stuff to carry their stuff around. They buy Fendi to show how rich and tasteful they are. So, in essence, this is where luxurious items start becoming an investment of sorts.
We will begin with what we call tier 3B. Do these fashion houses are not as huge compared to the ones in level 3A? These include Alexander McQueen, Bally, Max Mara, Moschino, Mulberry, Miu Miu, and Balmain. Some people that are into fashion might be able to recognize Alexander McQueen’s signature high-platform sneakers. Still, these brands don’t have the same pull, nor the resources possessed by their more expensive and exclusive counterparts.
Level 3A is where things start getting real. These brands are expensive, highly respectable fashion houses but remain only in the middle of our list. Some of their goods are too mainstream or are manufactured in Chinese sweatshops. We’re talking about Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Balenciaga, Dolce and Gabbana, Givenchy, Valentino, and Versace. These brands are much more recognizable than level 3B.
The 4th tier on our list is occupied by semi-expensive brands that some may consider trashy. You’ve probably seen these brands charge ludicrous prices for their clothing thanks to influencers and people that have hyped their products to the point where they are, ironically not seen as a luxury anymore. In this category, we have Palm Angels, Emporio Armani, and Off White. If they have to rely so much on trashy marketing campaigns unlike other more coordinated and established brands, then they might not be seen as such. Thanks to the collaboration with celebrities and extensive advertising, these brands are seen as a luxury. However, when compared to traditional luxury brands these are no better than the mass market brands.
